Berthel Fisher & Company Presents Three Local Businesses with $30,000 in Flood Recovery Money

Cedar Rapids, Iowa – October 8th 2009 –
Berthel Fisher & Company, a local financial services firm, donated $30,000 to three very deserving, local businesses who were directly affected by the flood of 2008. The donations were distributed from the Berthel Fisher 2008 Flood Relief Fund which was established immediately after the devastating flood.
Recipients of a $10,000 check from the Berthel Fisher 2008 Flood Relief Non-Endowed Donor-Advised Fund held at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation are: Theatre Cedar Rapids, Four Oaks, and the St Luke’s Child Protection Center.
Four Oaks’ D Street location sustained significant damage during the flood of 2008. The devastation resulted in displaced staff, relocation of children and families as well as extensive reconstruction of the building. Berthel Fisher & Company donated $10,000 to the recovery program at Four Oaks, to help replace funds that were set aside for community outreach programs. The donated money will help bring financial stability back to the child welfare and juvenile justice programs, as funds were depleted during reconstruction.
The second recipient of flood donation money is St. Luke’s Child Protection Center. The Child Protection Center serves abused children across not only Linn, but 50 of Iowa’s counties. During the wake of the flood the child protection center has seen a marked increase in abuse in the Linn county area. Berthel Fisher & Company donated $10,000 to assist the center in caring for these children in need.
Also receiving a $10,000 donation from Berthel Fisher & Company is Theatre Cedar Rapids. TCR was in the heart of the flood zone, and has started the rebuilding process of the Iowa Theater Building. After sustaining millions of dollars worth of damage during the flood, Berthel Fisher & Company is proud to contribute to the reconstruction of this historic theater.
As a prominent member of the greater Cedar Rapids area since 1985, Berthel Fisher & Company has been actively involved in the flood recovery process since the devastation took place in the summer of 2008. BFC (and its representatives) has donated over $125,000, and has been integral in maintaining national awareness of the disaster by hosting a fundraising brunch featuring disaster recovery professional, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.
